Technical Acoustics

Technical acoustics and vibration control technology concern themselves with the physical origins of sound and vibrations and their propagation in air and solid media.

Sound Source Localization

One image-making method involves localizing a sound source using a microphone array. Here the sound-radiating surface of the test object is "scanned" (a technique called beamforming) and the measurement values are color-coded and superimposed on a live video image. The PAK-Software thus allows time-varying noise emissions to be graphically visualized.

Sound Power

A key variable of the source strength of a sound creator is the sound power. The PAK-Software supports the user in correctly determining the sound power in accordance with DIN EN ISO 3740 ff. in anechoic or semi-anechoic rooms (envelope method). It is also possible to identify the sound power in a reverberation test chamber using a known reverberation time, or to determine it by comparing it against a reference sound source with a known sound power (comparative method).

Sound Intensity

If a special test chamber is not available, the sound power can also be determined by measuring the sound intensity. The PAK-Software supports the use of different probes (pressure/pressure and pressure/particle velocity) and continuously checks all the principal sound field indicators. Not only that, but the emission behavior of the test object is also graphically visualized (sound field mapping).
